IN Our own voice Exhibition: Behind the scenes
These photos reveal the process of how we curated our 58 piece exhibition. Six of the pieces are Collaborative works; whereas each "Heavie" started a painting, then sent it to another artist, ensuring that everyone contributed to each piece. It was an exercise of trust, confidence and innovation - for what we saw when the pieces were complete - are truly special to each of us! Also, the banners that welcome guests into the exhibit are comprised of our collaborative pieces.
We also have a special section devoted to the poem Strange Fruit (written by Abel Meeropol; song made famous by Billie Holiday). Each artist created versions of their own "translation," for a moving display that begs viewers to participate deeper in the meaning of the poem.
